Look & Feel

Look and Feel for the Show

The real world location is like a cool warehouse hangout – comfortable, modern, just a bit weird.

Each celeb will arrive almost as if s/he is clubbing/hanging with friends – wicked clothes, up for a party, maybe even ready to pull..

The celeb will play from their own bunker - a space they personalise with a bit of their own stuff, maybe even with a choice of their own music playing. Of course their styling probably won’t fit with the avatar they’ve been given.

We film them tight and confessional, encouraging them to confide their feelings, their motives, their paranoia straight to camera.

We just see them and the stuff behind them – no computer hardware.

The virtual world is unmistakably artificial and exaggerated – but vivid, exotic and atmospheric.

The look in the virtual world: wonderful like Windlight (Second Life) with shades of A Scanner Darkly.

The Puppetmaster’s control room is clearly part of the same building – but it’s his lair. A heightened feel of high geek style. He can flick a button to summon up action from the bunkers and the virtual world on one of the wide and non-matching collection of screens and monitors. The puppetmaster’s henchmen/women are
obsequious to him . They take their resentment out by teasing and misleading the celebrity avatars.

Months of interactivity, speculation, play, and UGC.

You can feature in a TV drama – but you won’t know if you’ve been there, till it gets shown…

Not The Face will be recorded in a virtual world where a pre developed community awaits. The audience will witness and even play a part in significant elements of the online virtual action to create their own material, before and after transmission of the series.

People who join the Not The Face virtual world will design their own avatars and be able to play in virtual landscapes where they know a new reality drama series is being filmed – they just won’t know when that’s happening or who is involved.

They may get caught up in the bank raid, spend the night dancing and flirting or end up in a nasty hijack situation. And we have no health and safety rules here to protect them.

They can record their experiences and submit the videos to the Not The Face Project – where they can also exchange conspiracy theories and gossip about the events they’ve been part of.

Little by little anyone who’s got involved will realise that there’s a virtual-world located ARG going on here - and they are already in it. If they follow the ARG they are more likely to be part of the action in Not The Face.

But of course they have no idea that the sex-kitten some of them saw hooking up with a security guard was actually Johnny Vegas copping off with Chris Moyles – not until they see the actual episode on BBC Three.

In the real world, the host tells Alexa Chung she didn’t just shoot an innocent bystander when she blazed her way out of the bank – she killed Stuart Brown from Stoke.

Anyone who was is in the Not The Face neighbour-hood during the action can access preview webisodes and mobisodes. After every episode-premiere, characters from the show will submit to interrogation in the virtual world.

The virtual-world game will be concluded and won in the same week as the TV final is decided. But the Not the Face virtual world will go on and lead a life of its own.

Until series 2.

Running Order

Specimen Episode Running Order - The Bank Job

Prologue – The real world arrivals of the three players - intercut with a spectacular virtual world scene-setter – the first act in a bank raid.

1. The players discover their avatars. Two are in the gang – the other’s on the security staff. None of them knows who’s a stooge, an ally or a rival.

2. All charm, the puppet master (PM) welcomes and interviews each player – he’ll pop up in their bunkers throughout the show. Back in the control room, he and his accomplices plot the next beat of the story for their victims.

3. The raid develops. Each celebrity worries whether to compete or cooperate in the face of dangers and opportunities: time-delay vaults, extra bullion, and dodgy, disloyal members of the gang and the bank staff.
3. Halfway through the show the PM introduces the players to each other in the real world. No one reveals their avatar .The PM presides over bluff, banter and sparring - then sends them back to their avatars in the bank vault.

4. A police sharpshooter kills one of the gang – one of the celebrity players. The jeopardy ratchets up.

5. The Remaining celeb avatars are stuck in the vault. The puppet master’s stooges - hot, sexy and desperate - up the ante. The interaction is intense, funny, embarrassing..

6. Another round of guessing. The dead celebrity joins in, giving no clue they are out of the game.

7. The police try to storm the bank. The gang has to make a run for it. “Come with me,” says the sexy catsuit stooge to Player G, “I know a way…” But does he trust her? In the final shoot-out only one of the avatars escapes and wins

8. Revelations – who double-crossed who, who kissed who, who messed up who and titles. The survivor, and his/her avatar, will be back later in the series.

The Next Generation of Reality Game Show. 15 X 30 mins

Each episode of Not The Face transforms three celebrities who don’t know each other’s identity, into their own unique and unforgettable avatars. Let loose in an online virtual world, together they embark on an adventure full of challenges and moral dilemmas which leads them… pretty much anywhere they like.

We watch the real people try to guess each other’s alter egos and to distinguish trust from lust, charm from harm and friend from foe. As avatars they battle, negotiate and flirt their way to the grand prize – survival.

The whole experience is hosted by an all-seeing puppetmaster. He knows everything that’s happpening in the real and virtual worlds, and he has his own team of avatars to manipulate the celebrity players.

Physically, professionally, and emotionally the celebrity avatars are cast against type. The spotty comic becomes a bootylicious model, the young idealist is now a corporate schemer. Will they struggle with their disguises or exploit them ruthlessly?

Viewers are in the privileged position of seeing every side of the action; the celebrities' responses and reactions, the avatars' secrets and lies, and the puppetmaster's failures and successes.

By the end of the show only one celebrity player will be left standing as the others fall by the wayside, fooled by the crew, lured by temptation and finally just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. When you die in Not The Face, there is no coming back.

Not The Face starts as a series of 10 apparently unconnected, stand-alone “reality dramas”. The bank raid – the pick-up joint - the prison break – the desert island – the rainforest tribe – the corporate HQ hijack – each produces one survivor, one winner.

The ten winners and two surprise “back-from the dead” survivors return with the same avatars for four new episodes, the semi-finals. The four winners of these then meet for the grand finale, which will also feature a few surprise guests from previous episodes - but they are now working for the puppetmaster.

Created and controlled by a heavenly alliance of talented dramatists and innovative game designers, Not The Face is driven by the choices and chemistry of the celebrities. They will take the audience on a ride
quite unlike anything we have ever seen on television before.
